Politique de confidentialité

The short version
StoryStalker has no accounts, so we hold no profile of you and never ask for an Instagram password. What we do run is Google Analytics and Google AdSense, and both set cookies and collect data about your visit. Everything below is the detail of that, including the parts that are less flattering than “we collect nothing”.
Information collected
By us. There is no registration, no account and no login on this site, so we hold no name, email address or password belonging to you. When you look up an Instagram username, that query is processed in order to fetch the public content you asked for and is not written to a profile or a search history attached to you. Bookmarks, your theme and your language preference are stored in your own browser and are never transmitted to us.
By our infrastructure. This site is served through Cloudflare, which processes standard request metadata — IP address, user agent, timestamps — to deliver pages and to block abuse. This is ordinary server-log processing and it happens for every website you visit.
By Google. We run Google Analytics and Google AdSense. Both collect data about your visit and set identifiers in your browser. Under most data-protection law this counts as personal data, so the accurate statement is not “no personal data is collected” but “we do not collect it ourselves, and Google does”. The next two sections set out what that means.
Cookies and similar technologies
Three distinct categories, which are worth separating:
- Strictly necessary. A short-lived cookie validates requests to our own API and blocks automated abuse. It carries no identifier for you and expires within minutes.
- Analytics. Google Analytics sets cookies and assigns your browser a random client identifier so we can see aggregate traffic — which pages get read, roughly which countries visitors come from, which devices they use. We do not upload any identifier of our own to it and we do not use it to build a profile of an individual.
- Advertising. Google AdSense and its partners set cookies and read device identifiers to select, serve, cap and measure ads. This can include personalised advertising based on your prior activity on this and other sites.
Browser preferences you set here — theme, language, saved bookmarks — live in local storage, never reach our servers, and disappear when you clear site data.
Advertising, and how to opt out
Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site. Its use of advertising cookies enables Google and its partners to serve ads based on your visits here and to other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings, and opt out of many third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices. Google's handling of data from sites that use its services is described in its partner-sites policy. Where Google presents its own consent prompt for personalised advertising, the choice you make there governs what its partners may do with your data.
You can also block third-party cookies in your browser, or use an ad blocker. The site works either way; nothing here is gated behind accepting an ad.
Traitement des données
When you search a username or paste a URL, the request is processed through our servers to fetch content Instagram already serves publicly. Media is passed through to your browser so that downloads behave consistently across devices, and is not retained on our servers afterwards.
We only ever request content that is publicly available. We do not access private accounts, we never ask for your Instagram credentials, and there is no field anywhere on this site in which to enter them.
Third-party services
The third parties that receive data as a result of your visit are Google (Analytics and AdSense, as described above), Cloudflare (page delivery and security), and Instagram's content network, from which requested media is fetched. We do not sell personal information, and we do not pass your searches or downloads to anyone.
Sécurité des données
All connections to this site are encrypted with HTTPS/TLS. Because we hold no accounts and retain no media, there is very little about you for us to lose — but we would rather say that than claim a breach is impossible, which no site can honestly promise.
Vos droits
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict the processing of personal data relating to you, and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. These rights apply regardless of what a privacy policy claims, so it is worth being clear about who holds what.
We hold no account records, so there is generally nothing for us to retrieve or erase on request — but if you believe we hold something concerning you, get in touch and we will look. For data held by Google through Analytics and AdSense, those requests go to Google, and its privacy policy explains how. You can use this site without accepting advertising cookies at all.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Modifications de cette politique
We update this policy when what we actually do changes — adding an analytics or advertising provider counts, and this revision exists because a previous version had fallen out of step with the scripts running on the page. The date at the top always reflects the current version.
