Instagram stories disappear after 24 hours and show the poster exactly who viewed them. Our Instagram story viewer lets you watch any public account's stories without your name appearing in their viewer list. Your identity stays completely hidden because we fetch the stories without using your Instagram account. This means the story poster has absolutely no way to know you watched their content.
Whether you want to keep an eye on a competitor, check on someone you unfollowed, or just browse casually without leaving a trace, this tool has you covered. It works on any device with a browser, including phones, tablets, and computers. No app to install, no Instagram login needed, and no limits on how many stories you can view. Just enter a username and start browsing.
You can also download stories in their original quality before they expire. Photos save as high-resolution images and videos save as MP4 files that play on any device. If you see a story you want to keep, just hit the download button and it saves directly to your device. No watermarks, no quality loss, no compression.
Our story viewer updates in real time. When a user posts a new story, it appears here within minutes. You can see the timestamp on each story so you know exactly when it was posted and how much time is left before it disappears. Stories are displayed as thumbnails that you can browse through at your own pace, unlike Instagram where stories auto-advance.
We built this tool because we believe everyone should be able to browse public content privately. Instagram stories are posted publicly, but the viewer tracking creates an awkward dynamic where people avoid watching stories from certain accounts. Our viewer removes that barrier entirely.
StoryStalker is completely free and always will be. There are no premium tiers, no download limits, and no registration required. We do not ask for your Instagram password and we never will. Your privacy is the whole point of this tool.
A no-nonsense way to save Instagram storys — built to be fast, private, and free.
Every story is saved at the exact resolution it was uploaded in — no re-compression, no downscaling.
You never sign in or hand over a password. Nothing links a download back to you.
Paste a username, pick what you want, and the file downloads straight to your device.
Works in any modern browser on iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac, or tablet — nothing to install.
We never stamp a logo or watermark onto your story. It's the clean, original file.
Save as many storys as you like. There are no daily caps, credits, or hidden paywalls.

What we do
StoryStalker is a viewer and downloader for content that Instagram already publishes openly. When an account is set to public, Instagram serves its photos, videos, stories, Reels and highlights to anyone who asks — no account required. That is how the profile looks to a search engine, to a browser with no session, and to anyone who opens the link you send them. What we do is request that same public data, lay it out in a page that is actually pleasant to read on a phone, and give you a download button Instagram never built.
The practical difference is that we make the request, not you. Instagram registers a story view against the account that watched it, and because the fetch happens from our side rather than from a session logged in as you, there is no account of yours attached to it. Nothing appears in the poster's viewer list. This is also why we never ask you to sign in: the moment you handed us a login, the anonymity would stop being real. We have no field for your Instagram password anywhere on this site, and any service that does ask for one is worth closing immediately.
Downloads come through at whatever resolution the story was uploaded in. We do not re-encode files, we do not stamp a watermark on them, and we do not push you toward an app to finish the job. Everything happens in the browser tab you already have open, on a phone, a tablet or a desktop.
We are also fairly clear about the limits, because most tools in this category are not. StoryStalker cannot reach anything Instagram is not already showing the public — and there is no clever workaround for that, which is the honest answer nobody selling a “private profile viewer” wants to give you.
What works
What doesn't

What we don't keep
We do not require an account, so there is nothing to link a search back to you. We do not store the media you view — files are passed through to your device rather than kept on our servers, and the profiles you look up are not saved to a history that belongs to you. Bookmarks, if you use them, live in your own browser's local storage and never reach us. Our privacy policy sets this out in full.
Who it's for
Tools like this get talked about as though there were only one reason anyone would use them. In practice the reasons are fairly mundane, and they mostly come down to Instagram being a difficult place to read something or keep a copy of it.
Creators, social media managers and small business owners use it to study what is working in their niche — which Reel openings hold attention, how a competitor structures a carousel, how often an account posts. Doing that from a logged-in account means following people you do not want in your feed and skewing your own recommendations. Here you can just look.
If your public account is your portfolio, it is worth having a copy that does not depend on one company's servers. Instagram's official data export works but takes days to arrive and is awkward to browse. Pulling a specific set of your own posts directly is usually faster when you need a handful of files rather than an archive.
Plenty of people deliberately do not have Instagram, or deleted it, and still need to see a public page — a restaurant's opening hours, a venue's announcement, a friend's photos from a trip. Instagram makes this deliberately awkward in a browser, with login walls interrupting after a few seconds. A public page should be readable by the public.
Stories vanish after 24 hours by design, and posts vanish whenever someone decides to clear their grid. If a tutorial, a recipe or an announcement matters to you, saving it while it exists is the only way to still have it later. Instagram's own save button only bookmarks the link, which stops working the moment the original comes down.
Public does not mean unowned. Everything you can view or download through StoryStalker still belongs to whoever made it, and the fact that a file is reachable does not transfer any rights in it to you. Saving something for your own reference is one thing. Reposting it as your own work, using it in an advertisement, or feeding it into a product you sell is a different thing entirely, and none of those become acceptable because a download button existed. If you republish someone else's work, credit them and ask first — that is not a legal technicality so much as the difference between research and taking.
We also want to be straightforward about what this tool is not for. It is not a way around someone's decision to make their account private, and it never will be — a private account's content is not served to anyone outside its approved followers, so there is nothing for us or anyone else to fetch. It is not a way to monitor a person who has asked to be left alone. If you are using any tool, ours included, to keep track of an individual who does not want contact with you, the tool is not the problem and stopping is the right call.
StoryStalker is an independent project. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Instagram or Meta Platforms, Inc., and we do not represent them in any way. We access only content that Instagram already serves publicly, we never circumvent privacy settings, and we never ask for your Instagram credentials. You can read more about the project on our about page, and the full rules of use are in our terms.
